The 5G-capable Samsung Galaxy S10 smartphone was released almost three years ago, in February 2019. It was obvious then that the technology was still very underdeveloped and not ready for widespread use. Over the past three years, 5G technologies have evolved rapidly.
Now Samsung and Qualcomm have set a 5G download speed record, which now reaches 8.08 Gbps. This is a huge leap considering the previous record was 5.23 Gbps. It was recorded by Samsung in March 2021. As AndroidHeadlines clarifies, the record was set using a system equipped with a Snapdragon X65 5G modem. Tests were conducted in a Samsung laboratory in Texas.

Samsung and Qualcomm were able to achieve speeds of 8.08 Gbps using New Radio Dual Connectivity (NR-DC) technology to combine mmWave and 5G mid-range frequencies.
Recall that in 2018, the 5G data transfer rate record was only 1.7 Gbps, in 2019 – 2.65 Gbps, and in 2020 – 4.3 Gbps. Presumably, today’s record will not be the last.
