In early May, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers in Cincinnati inspected three large shipments from China and identified tens of thousands of counterfeit Apple AirPods. After examination, it was confirmed that these headphones infringe on Apple copyrights.
A total of 36,000 fake AirPods were seized, each batch containing 12,000 units. Although each shipment was listed for $ 5,280, it would have sold these AirPods at Apple’s RRP of $ 7.16 million.

It also explains that Apple has trademarks for the AirPods that are listed in the US Customs database. Customs officials add that companies do not need to put the Apple label or logo on their products to violate these trademarks. Careful examination of the earbuds revealed that the shape and design are completely identical to those of an Apple product.
Apple AirPods are one of the tech giant’s top-selling products, with shipments of around 114 million units in 2020. The company has a dedicated team to combat counterfeit products. Last year, the team identified over a million counterfeit Apple products.
