As he pointed out, 85 thousand hectares of arable land have been destroyed, while more than 100 thousand animals drowned.
At the same time, he presented to all the ministers of agriculture of the EU, the images of destruction that he witnessed in Thessaly during his visit on October 5 and made special reference to flooded crops, to the damaged agricultural infrastructure and to the businesses that have suffered incalculable damage. Mr. Wojciechowski referred to the unprecedented extent of the damages and the meetings he had with farmers, underlining that the sums required for reparations are huge.
According to him, the image he saw testifies to them adverse effects of climate change and emphasized the need for solidarityas well as taking measures to deal with the climate crisis.
For his part, the Minister of Rural Development and Food, Lefteris Avgenakis, during his intervention today at the Council of Ministers, also invited his EU counterparts. to visit Thessaly on November 9.
Finally, Mr. Avgenakis, in a meeting he had before the Council of Ministers with the Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Stella Kyriakidou, received her commitment to visit the affected areas.
