Its Minister of Defense Turkey Hulusi Akarwelcomed its counterparts in Istanbul Italy, Lorenzo Gueriniand her Of Britain, Ben Wallacein order to discuss developments in Ukraine waras well as issues related to the cooperation of the three countries in matters of defense and security.
In a joint press conference after the tripartite meeting, the Turkish Minister of Defense stated: “We reaffirm our support for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine.”.
The three ministers also agreed on “Need to cease fire as soon as possible”in order to avoid further loss of human life and to prevent the worsening of the humanitarian crisis, but also to restore stability in the region,
Prior to the tripartite meeting, Hulusi Akar met privately with both his Italian and British counterparts, according to a statement from the Turkish Defense Ministry.
Ankara has stepped up efforts to find a diplomatic solution, pushing for a meeting between the presidents of Russia and Ukraine. Akar said the three ministers estimate that the ceasefire will “Opened the path of diplomacy for talks”.
The last round of peace talks between the Moscow and Kiev delegations took place in Istanbul late last month.
