Human Rights Court gives opinion against Madeleine McCann’s parents

The European Court of Human Rights gave a contrary opinion, this Tuesday (20), to the parents of Madeleine McCann, saying that Portugal granted a fair hearing in its battle for defamation against a former police officer.

The then police officer, Gonçalo Amaral, who worked on the investigation of Madeleine’s disappearance in 2007, suggested in his book “A Verdade da Mentira” that the girl’s parents were involved in the case.

On May 3, 2007, 3-year-old Madeleine McCann disappeared from her bedroom in the apartment where her family was staying at the Praia da Luz resort in Portugal, while her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, were eating with friends at a restaurant. next.

In September 2007, Gerry and Kate were questioned by the police as formal suspects.

In July 2008, the Portuguese police withdrew the investigation for lack of evidence and absolved the McCanns of any involvement.
