According to the top manager of Human Rights Foundation, in many authoritarian countries, for example, in Afghanistan, Belarus and Venezuela, bitcoin is used to combat authoritarian regimes and their control means.
“The main thing is that you should take out from my speech: Bitcoin is bad for dictators. However, we are faced with resistance in the press, from politicians, as well as various experts who claim that bitcoin has no value and usefulness. ”
Gladstein compared the position of such politicians and experts with “ostrich that hides his head in the sand.” This attitude to the first cryptocurrency is due to the “financial privilege” that people have in developed countries, which is expressed in certain guarantees and rights.
“The remaining 87% of the Earth people live in countries with economics on the verge of collapse and a terrible national currency or under the control of an authoritarian regime without the right to vote or will,” – The financial director of Human Rights Foundation said.
These 87% simply do not have access to global markets and hedges to maintain the value of savings in inflation. Bitcoin, in turn, represents a new system that is able to equalize everyone in the world, believes Gladstein. According to him, the situation has led to an increase in the popularity of encrypted messaging services. If in 2010 there were no such programs, after 10 years everything is already being used – the same is waiting for Bitcoin.
By 2030, the first cryptocurrency will become the main asset in the struggle for human rights, since it cannot be a discrimination tool and its users do not need banking accounts under the full control of governments, Gladstein explained.
The chairman of the company Strategy Michael Saylor suggested that the Federal Housing Finance Department (FHFA) allow to use bitcoins as a pledge subject when issuing mortgage loans.
