Hummer EV direct competitors introduced in China: premium electric SUVs will be released in 2023

The Chinese automotive giant Dongfeng yesterday, August 28, officially introduced the world to its new subsidiary brand M Hero, which will specialize in a rather interesting segment of the automotive industry – the company will produce premium SUVs. It is worth noting that this is so far the first manufacturer that will work in this direction in China, but the segment of SUVs in China is developing very rapidly, so there will be much more players on the market in the near future. And Dongfeng apparently decided to get ahead of the competition by immediately introducing two vehicles from M Hero, which should go on sale in the foreseeable future.

At the presentation, which took place in Wuhan, representatives of the subsidiary brand presented the M-Terrain and M-Terrain S SUVs, which, importantly, are still considered concepts for production models. But it is worth clarifying that although the vehicles are concepts, they are built on a very real off-road electric platform called M Tech – this is China’s first “skateboard” architecture that was developed specifically for off-road vehicles. Also during the presentation, representatives of the company spoke about the power plants – both concepts use four Mega-Power electric motors for each of the wheels, so that the total power of the electric power plant will exceed 1000 horsepower.

Naturally, the SUV will be all-wheel drive, plus these are the world’s first cars with a two-speed gearbox with differential lock support and 16,000 Nm of torque. Yes, it sounds quite implausible, but these are official characteristics – they will probably be simplified a bit closer to release. And the manufacturer also said that both SUVs can boast of chic dynamics – acceleration from zero to hundreds of such an impressive vehicle takes only 4.2 seconds. At the same time, the car was equipped with M-ATS control technology, which will automatically determine the conditions and type of road surface in order to select the ideal off-road driving mode.

There is even a Crab Walk Mode that allows the car to drive on the spot, just like a Hummer EV, and the company has scheduled the official start of production for 2023 – a special plant is already under construction, which should produce the first batch of 100,000 SUVs.
