Hundreds of migrants remain stranded on the Belarus-Poland border

It seems that the situation on the border between Belarus and Poland, with hundreds of migrants and refugees stranded trying to cross into the latter.

About 600 people have taken refuge in the warehouse of the logistics center in Brusgi and are being helped, the aid organization told the German Agency.

Many of the men, women and children there are said to want to get to Germany. An Iraqi man who spent a long time at the border finally managed to reach his family in German territory, dpa was informed.

Thousands of people, mostly from war zones, were evacuated to its borders Belarus and EU Member States for months in 2021, in the hope that they will be allowed to enter European countries. Warsaw, Brussels and Washington accuse Minsk of fabricating the crisis in retaliation for European sanctions following the presidential election, in which the opposition claimed that Alexander Lukashenko had won an extended term.

Polish-Belarusian border

The Belarusian government has been imposing its own sanctions on the EU and the US since Saturday.

Imports of various goods produced in the West were banned. The embargo applies to products such as meat and dairy, among others.

For Minsk, the measure is a reaction to the “policy of discrimination” and the “hostile actions” of its target states “against our country”. It mainly affects European food producers.

Belarus is expanding its economic ties with Russia to compensate for the import cuts.
