Hundreds of Palestinians protested in northern Gaza to demand the end of the war and shouted “Hamas is a terrorist,” showed a social media video in a rare public demonstration of opposition to the militant group that triggered the last war with his attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
The north of the Gaza Strip has been one of the most devastated areas. Most buildings in the densely populated area were reduced to rubble and much of the population has moved several times to escape the conflict.
“Hamas is a terrorist” shouted those seen in one of the posts published in the X, apparently from the Beit Lahiya region of Gaza on Tuesday (25).
It was possible to see people marching through a dusty street between war -damaged buildings.
Posts started to circulate widely on Tuesday night. Reuters was able to confirm the location of the video by buildings, public service posts and the road layout that corresponded to satellite images in the area.
The date was not verifiable, but several videos of similar scenes in Gaza were also posted on March 25.
In other publications, one of the crowd -held tracks said “No more wars,” while people shouted “we don’t want war.”
Hundreds of thousands of residents who fled south of Gaza at the beginning of the war, which has killed more than 50,000 Palestinians so far, have returned to their ruins in the north when a ceasefire came into force in January.
Now, the Israeli exit orders after the country reported its offensive on March 18 broke the two -month truce, during which Hamas delivered more hostages from around 250 people the group captured in its 2023 attack.
The militants also killed more than 1,200 people in that attack.
Since Israel resumed its attacks on Gaza, saying that its goal was to completely dismantle Hamas, more than 700 people, most women and children, have been killed, according to Palestinian health authorities.
Hamas took control of Gaza in 2007 in elections that swept the Fatah group of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
The group governs the territory since then, offering little space for opposition. Some Palestinians express caution about speaking publicly against the group for fear of retaliation.
