A funeral was held in Maarakeh, in southern Lebanon, this Friday (29) for Hezbollah fighters who were killed during exchanges of attacks with Israeli forces.
Relatives of fighters killed before the ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel came into force on Wednesday (27) marched behind coffins draped in yellow Hezbollah flags.
Women and children held signs showing the fallen fighters, before prayers were held during the funeral.
The ceasefire agreement calls for Hezbollah to withdraw from areas south of the Litani River, which runs about 30 km north of the border with Israel, and for the Lebanese army to send troops there while Israeli ground troops withdraw.
Hezbollah chief Naim Qassem promised on Friday to coordinate with the Lebanese army to implement a ceasefire agreement with Israel, which he said his group agreed to “with its head held high.”
It was his first speech since the ceasefire came into force after more than a year of hostilities between Hezbollah and Israel that decimated parts of Lebanon and killed 4,000 people, including hundreds of women and children.
Qassem said Hezbollah “approved the agreement, with resistance strong on the battlefield and our heads held high with our right to defend ourselves.”
