A 60 -year -old from Hungary, holding more than 100 cats and a dog in miserable conditions and malnourished in her apartment, was sentenced to 10 months in prison for brutal animal treatment, a court said in Budapest today. The case, which has caused public opinion outcry, is one of the most serious cases of animal abuse in recent years in Hungary, as local media reports. This woman was found guilty of causing “prolonged pain in a large number of animals” by neglecting them, the court explained in a press release. The defendant, who did not express any remorse, did not provide sufficient food and water to cats and dogs, holding them locked in her “apartment infected with animal feces”. As a consequence “they suffered from external and internal parasitic diseases,” the court said.
