The president of the national meteorological service (NMS) of Hungary and her deputy were fired today, two days after bad weather they had predicted canceled a fireworks celebration in Budapest to mark the country’s national holiday.
THE Cornelia Radic and Yula Horvath was fired by Minister of Technology and Industry Laszlo Palkovic, to whom NMS reports. In the announcement of the ministry no explanation is given for this decision.
Yesterday, however, the pro-government media heavily criticized the weather service for predicting storms and gusts of wind as a result to cancel the Sabbath celebration.
“They gave misleading information about the severity of the bad weather, which led to wrong decisions by the security team” commented the online newspaper Origo according to the Athens News Agency.

Reacting to the dismissal of the scientists, the liberal Andras Fekete-Gyor quipped, in a post on Facebook: “They failed to conjure up the desired weather, they were thrown out. No, we are not in a central Asian dictatorship. This is the Hungary of Fidesz”, the ruling party.
Nem vida próvalstili a kért objektart? kirúgták. Nem, ez nem eksom Közép-Ázsiai diktatura? ez a Fidesz Magyarországa. 💜 Veletek vaynuk Radics Kornélia és Horváth Gyula!
