Hungarian Prime Minister Fidesz’s ruling party maintains marginal lead over opposition coalition ahead of Sunday’s parliamentary elections Victor Orbanaccording to a poll by the IDEA institute released today.
The poll, conducted March 22-28, saw Orban’s support for the nationalist Fidesz constituency at 41%, up from 40% in early March. At the same time, according to the Athens News Agency, the six-party opposition coalition is at 39%, with its percentage being increased by two points compared to the previous poll.
Hungary: The undecided have decreased
The percentage of undecided in Hungary fell by five points to 6%, according to the poll.
Orban is facing a united opposition front for the first time since coming to power in a sweeping election victory in 2010. The United Opposition candidate for prime minister is Peter Marki-Zai, an independent politician who is now mayor of a small town in southern Hungary.
Among the voters who have decided what to vote for, Fidesz has a comfortable lead and is ahead of the opposition alliance by 5 percentage points.
