Hungary no longer opposes the choice of Mark Rutte as the next NATO secretary general, Dutch media reported today, Tuesday 18/6, after the outgoing Dutch prime minister and his Hungarian counterpart met on the sidelines of the EU leaders’ summit in Brussels. while Slovakia also expressed its support for Rutte’s candidacy. Citing sources, Dutch media outlets NOS and RTL reported that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán did not repeat his demand that Rutte apologize for what Orbán had called “problematic” views on Hungary. That apology was one of two conditions Hungary had set for approving Rutte as Jens Stoltenberg’s successor at the NATO helm.
