A 37 -year -old man was arrested Suspected of slaughtering two jaguars On a rural property in Camapuã, Mato Grosso do Sul. The arrest was carried out by the Environmental Military Police (PMA) on the afternoon of last Thursday (24), after an anonymous report of illegal hunt in the region.
During the action, the police found the carcasses of the two animals, whose species is threatened with extinction and protected by Brazilian environmental legislation.
The suspect was identified at the scene and carried a 357 caliber revolver. He was referred to the Camapuã Civil Police Station.
The PMA pointed out that the case has nothing to do with the recent attack of a jaguar in the Pantanal, involving the death of Jorge Ávalo. The feline captured in this other episode is currently under care at the Wild Animal Rehabilitation Center (CRAS) in Campo Grande.
The crime will be investigated by the Civil Police, which investigates whether the suspect would intend to market the skins or if he practiced illegal hunting without commercial purposes.
According to PMA, the State Government intensified environmental policing throughout Mato Grosso do Sul to curb illegal hunting and strengthen environmental education actions, especially in rural properties, roads and sights.
