Hurricane Ian has already brought winds and light rain, says Brazilian who lives in Florida

Hurricane Ian gained strength and reached Category 4 as it approaches Florida, United States.

According to the National Hurricane Center, the winds are currently reaching 225 km/h.

In an interview with CNN Radio the Brazilian Mauro Lopes, who has lived in Orlando, Florida, for 7 years, said that the city “was up with the appearance of a hurricane.”

“There were strong winds, some gusts, and light rain. But the hurricane is still approaching, for now it’s calm, nothing unusual, because it hasn’t hit hard yet,” she said.

The industrial maintenance specialist said that the preparation “is fierce.”

“Here everyone is on alert, as the time comes, the concern increases”, he reported.

According to him, some of the measures are to remove furniture from the balconies, reinforce windows, stock up on food, water and have a gas stove stocked – “because there is a possibility of running out of energy for 2 or 3 days.”

Mauro highlighted that classes are suspended and that the trend is for a general curfew, if necessary.

During the passage of Hurricane Ian in Cuba, still in category 3, fields were flooded, with trees felled and the island’s electrical grid fell.

More than 2.5 million people in Florida were advised to evacuate before the storm hits.
