Its shores of Mexico Hurricane Roslyn is expected to hit and cause dangerous storm surges and flooding. This was announced by the US National Hurricane Center (NHC), with authorities calling on residents of some areas to move to safe places.
Roslin was reinforced in typhoon Category 1 late yesterday, the agency said, as it approached tourist areas in central Mexico.
“The completion of preparations should be expedited”with the goal of protecting lives and property in typhoon-warned areas off the coasts of Jalisco and Nayarit states, according to the NHC.
Roslin, which was 290 kilometers south-southwest of Manzanillo port late yesterday, was expected to move along the coast before turning inland near the tourist town of Puerto Vallarta, according to a map released by the NHC. The hurricane is expected to reach the coast by late tonight or early tomorrow morning (local time), according to the US center.
In Jalisco state, authorities asked residents to avoid beaches and tourists to avoid activities on the coast or in mountainous areas this weekend. They also urged those living in low-lying areas near rivers or streams to move to safer places.
The NHC expects Roslin to produce dangerous storm surges with “large, destructive waves” and “significant flooding” in coastal areas.
