Husband and wife take their own lives together. Two years ago they lost their daughter, victim of abuse by a relative

Alessandro Giacoletto, 64, and Cristina Masera, 59, husband and wife originally from Rivalta, in the Turin area, took their own lives. They did it together, side by side, in their car parked inside the garage at home. When they were found by rescuers on December 9th, both were unconscious in the car. A few days earlier, at the beginning of the month, they had given an interview to the local newspaper The Echo of Chisone in which they recounted the drama they had been experiencing for two years, since their daughter Chiara had also taken her own life, at 28 years old. «Don’t call it suicide, that’s not the right word. Anyone who ends his life due to violence is the victim of psychic murder and his tormentor is a murderer», underlined Giacoletto, one of the best-known family doctors in Orbassano. «Chiara committed suicide because she was a victim of abuse. Now we are just shadows.”

According to what we read in the report de The Echo of Chisone Chiara had suffered abuse and harassment when she was a child of just 5-6 years old, by a family member who had died a few years ago. The girl had never spoken about it and no one had ever had any suspicions of any kind, until Chiara began to feel ill when she was twenty years old. What she had suffered had come back to haunt her in the form of panic attacks, anxiety and insomnia. Until the tragic epilogue in February 2022.

The mother, Cristina Masera, who worked as a pharmacist, died after nine days of hospitalization at Molinette in Turin, while Alessandro Giacoletto died on 23 December in the intensive care unit of the San Luigi hospital in Orbassano. «Now you are in the only place where there is no pain. And you have joined your splendid daughter to remain together in eternity”, we read among the messages of condolence expressed by the community left shocked by what happened. “Now they’re all three together.”
