Hyaluronic acid, why do we find it everywhere?

In the beginning it seemed difficult even to pronounce his name, ahyaluronic acid, but now it has fully entered our beauty routines, and its popularity is due to the fact that we find it almost everywhere in cosmetic products, from serums, to masks, to moisturizers. But why is it an important addition to our daily skincare? Because it is a molecule that occurs naturally in the skin, it binds to water to plump it up and give it that dewy and luminous effect that takes our face back in time.

We talked to la about this popular ingredient Dr. Chiara Bonatti, dermatologist and medical consultant for Yves Rocher Italythe brand that has just launched the line Filler Végétal using an ancient, natural and effective fermentation and transformation process capable of preserving the properties of the ingredients to extract a100% hyaluronic acid of natural origin, derived from the biofermentation of glucose from wheat and corn. To this has been added an asset derived fromcrystalline grass, cold extracted with a botanical cryoextraction technique, an exclusive and patented method, which allows to release and concentrate all the power of the vegetable while preserving the integrity of its active ingredients. The fresh extracted crystalline herb stimulates the expression of enzymes involved in the production of hyaluronic acid and allows to increase its natural production (+ 93% according to in vitro tests) in the heart of the cells to fill wrinkles.

From what age does the endogenous production of hyaluronic acid decrease?
«Over time, due to genetic (intrinsic) and environmental (extrinsic) causes, the cells age, this process involves both men and women: it begins after 20-25 years of age. Over the years the skin thins, the cell renewal process slows down, the production of hyaluronic acid decreases, and therefore also the ability to retain water and stay hydrated ».

There is a lot of talk about hyaluronic acid to plump the skin, to keep it hydrated but what are the real effects of its deficiency?

«Hyaluronic acid hydrates the tissues, attracting water molecules around it, filling small wrinkles and restoring density to the epidermis, so the first effects of the deficiency are seen where the skin is thinnest. In those areas, if hyaluronic acid is missing, the skin becomes drier and more fragile, favoring the formation of fine wrinkles. The first to appear are the “crow’s feet” around the eyes, but they can also be present around the mouth and on the forehead. Another place where the lack of hyaluronic acid is revealed is the neck, where the thin skin and its mobility make it very delicate.

What we take from the outside through creams, such as the hyaluronic acid in Filler Végétal, goes to position itself in that membrane that surrounds the cells and acts as cement, is it identical to what we have in the body? Does it perform the same function as our natural one?
“The hyaluronic acid that we apply from the outside through creams, what we inject with fillers or what we take through supplements is the same molecule as what we produce in our body. This molecule is produced by various types of cells, in particular fibroblasts and keratinocytes. But hyaluronic acid is not found only in the skin, it is generally found in all the connective tissues of our body and above all: in the eye; in the synovial fluid of the joints, in the cartilage; in the tendons; in the umbilical cord, and even in the walls of the aorta ».

Is there a way to increase the stimulation of endogenous hyaluronic acid production?
“The new Filler Végètal line, thanks to the combination of plant active ingredients of crystalline grass and 100% hyaluronic acid of natural origin, stimulates the natural production of hyaluronic acid, increases the skin’s ability to retain water and consequently improves the compactness of the face and works on wrinkles and fine lines. The production of endogenous hyaluronic acid can also be stimulated through collagen-based supplements, useful for those suffering from arthritis. While its premature loss can be prevented with a healthy lifestyle: no smoking and no sun than with UV rays that prematurely age the face ».
