Italian sports car manufacturer Maserati has taken another step towards electrifying its lineup with a plug-in hybrid version of the Levante luxury crossover. The Maserati Levante Hybrid goes on sale this summer.
The Maserati Levante Hybrid is based on a hybrid setup with a 2-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces 325 horsepower. The power of the hybrid engine is comparable to that of a regular Maserati Levante with a 6-cylinder petrol engine under the hood. Acceleration of the hybrid from 0 to 100 km / h takes only six seconds, and the maximum speed declared by the manufacturer reaches 240 km / h.
The Maserati Levante Hybrid retained the all-wheel drive, but received a new transmission, which is slightly lighter compared to the gasoline version of the car. The manufacturer says about the improved weight distribution due to the battery installed in the rear of the car, making the hybrid even more maneuverable and comfortable to drive. And despite using a hybrid setup, Maserati has managed to maintain the traditional growl of a car without any amplifiers.
“Anyone in the cabin of a Maserati hybrid should still hear the signature roar of a Maserati engine,” the company said in a statement.
The Maserati Levante Hybrid weighs just over 2 tons. The car is presented in a new metallic blue color with a three-layer coating called Azzurro Astro and sits on 21-inch alloy wheels. In addition to the body itself, the brake calipers, side air intakes and the brand logo are painted blue. Even the stitching of the seats in the cabin is blue.
Overall, the Maserati Levante Hybrid can be considered the first update of the Italian SUV four years after its first appearance on the market.
