Hyundai and Kia recall 500,000 vehicles due to fire risk

Recall campaigns for the automotive market are not surprising or rare, but there are exceptions. For example, South Korean manufacturers Hyundai and Kia launched an impressive recall campaign of 484,000 vehicles due to the risk of a short circuit and further vehicle fire. Moreover, the giants of the market advised the owners of potentially vulnerable cars to park vehicles away from the house (or garage) and other cars, so that in case of fire, they would not harm their home or other people’s property.

The reason why manufacturers Hyundai and Kia were forced to announce such a prominent recall campaign for the market is due to the failure of the electronic brake control unit called the Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit. Due to this collection, short circuits can occur within the system, which lead to fires in the engine compartment in the engine compartment. Naturally, this problem is quite worthy of a critical status, so dealers will actively engage in the recall of vulnerable cars for further free replacement of defective electronics.

Currently, Kia Sportage (2014-2016), as well as Kia K900 (2016-2018) and Hyundai Santa Fe (2016-2018) are driving the recall campaign. At the same time, Hyundai has the largest share of recalled vehicles, with 357,830 potentially vulnerable vehicles registered, while Kia has only 126,747 vehicles at risk of fire. Fortunately, so far there have been no reports of injuries on the part of drivers, while there are still recorded cases of fire – now there are data on 11 incidents. We can only hope that the situation will be resolved in time.
