“I didn’t know what was going to happen to me”, says victim of the Mooca Maniac

The Civil Police of São Paulo are searching for a man suspected of attacking women on the streets of the eastern part of the capital. Known as the “Mooca Maniac”, he is responsible for terrorizing residents in the eastern part of the capital of São Paulo. One of the victims told CNN who didn’t know what would happen to her after the approach.

According to the São Paulo Public Security Department, he has already been identified. The temporary arrest of Solirano de Araujo Sousa was ordered by the São Paulo Court of Justice.

THE vehicle used for the crimes was found by the intelligence sector of the investigations when committing the attacks the sign was removed by the criminal.

The suspect had a history of aggravated robbery and express kidnapping. . He was sentenced to 11 years and was imprisoned between 2000 and 2009”, said Ricardo Salvatori, the officer responsible for the case at the 57th DP in an interview with CNN .

The delegate also highlighted that, after the suspect has been identified and the car he used to carry out the attacks has been seized, it is only a matter of time before the suspect is arrested.

Victim’s report

A resident of the neighborhood since 2022, the young woman reported to CNN who, before the attack, always came home late, alone or in the company of friends.

The victim reports that on the day of the attack she was going to pick up her brother from school, which she has been doing for about a year. She says that the man was on the sidewalk, smoking a cigarette and did not appear to be any different.

When trying to avoid the maniac, the victim says she was approached by him. The announcement of the robbery preceded the threat of death if she tried to fight back. The surprise paralyzed the 16-year-old girl.

“He grabbed my arm and tried to drag me into the car,” he says. See the approach:

Young woman said maniac had no intention of robbing her

Desperation made the victim offer her own cell phone to the man, begging him to let her go, explaining that she needed to pick up her little brother from school.

“He didn’t show any interest in my cell phone, I understood that it wasn’t just a robbery,” he recounted the moment he became desperate.

The uncertainty or suspicion about what would happen to the young woman if she got into the car caused her to react and start screaming for help. A witness, inside a car, signaled to the maniac that he had witnessed the scene and started honking.

“That’s when I ran out and crossed to the other side of the street,” she said with relief.

The young woman says she was unable to notice the attacker’s condition, whether he appeared to be in an altered state caused by some drug. Detective Ricardo Salvatori, responsible for investigating the case of the Mooca maniac, revealed to CNN this Thursday (19), that the criminal was a drug addict.

She confesses that, because it was a “common” route, to which she was accustomed, she was not very attentive. The attack happened quickly and unexpectedly.

“I was walking around, I didn’t make eye contact with him. (…) I just noticed his car and kept walking,” she said.

Although she could not witness the man’s expression, the victim said the agitation in the attacker’s speech was noticeable.

The young woman told the reporter CNN What was the feeling she had in the moments when the man attacked her?

“I felt helpless at the time… I felt desperate, I didn’t know how I was going to get out of there. I didn’t know what would happen to me if I couldn’t get out,” she said.

The victim said that after leaving the situation, she continued on her way to her younger brother’s school. On the way home, she said she cried when she thought about what had happened.

She went to the police station on the same day of the attack, and performed facial recognition of the man by analyzing several images.

The resident of the traditional neighborhood of São Paulo explains that she has never had any problems or even heard reports of a series of robberies or attacks in the region.

Lawyer warns about victim support

The lawyer for two victims, Jefferson Gilber, told the report CNN that they have received messages from people asking if they knew the criminal, as they believe that the women did not show much of a reaction when approached.

One of the victims is dismayed by the reaction of some people, who blame her for what she went through. Jefferson believes that this moment should be one of acceptance and respect for the victims. He says that the women and their families are shaken.

“They are being revictimized, [as pessoas estão] blaming them for the acts of a criminal”, ponders Gilber, claiming that such an attitude comes from a society with sexist thoughts.

Police identified 7 victims

The agents have not confirmed that all the attacks happened on the same day. All seven women have already filed a police report, but the number of victims could be even higher.

THE CNN gained access to security camera footage showing some of the attacks. See below.

In this video, the suspect in the blue coat and red cap parks his car just past a bus stop where a woman is standing. He gets out of the vehicle and attacks the victim.
