“I disregard rights,” says secretary expelled from flight to CNN

In an interview with CNN 360 ° former state deputy and current secretary of Social Development and Housing of Valinhos (SP), Célia Leão, said that the episode in which she was taken from a flight from the Gol airline because of an orthopedic cushion was a “disrespect for the issue of rights won.”

The case occurred on Thursday (1st), when the former deputy boarded a company flight in Buenos Aires to Brazil, when he was prevented from using an orthopedic cushion and later removed from the aircraft.

According to Celia, who has been a wheelchair for 50 years, she informed the flight attendant that, because of her condition, it is necessary to use the cushion so that she does not feel pain due to the lack of muscles in the buttocks.

“I still told her, the pillow is not a pillow, it is a piece of my body … I need a different treatment to be able to sit on a plane, travel comfortable, travel without problems, safely.”

The secretary also said she requested four times that the commissioner called the aircraft commander to explain the situation, but he did not present himself. According to her, the discussion lasted about 40 minutes.

“Well, an unnecessary debate started, she wasn’t as delicate as I imagine a stewarder should be. I asked him to call the commander to understand why the cushion and why I had to sit on her, why I don’t have enough muscles in the thigh and buttocks to sit more than five minutes. She said he wouldn’t come.”

According to the former deputy, she had traveled to the city four days earlier, on Sunday (27), also with Gol, and carrying the pillow.

“An unfounded discussion began, an absurd discussion. The goal didn’t need it. I had come four days for Buenos Aires, I was coming back and putting my pillow to go down three hours later. It started a very complicated, very delicate and very vexatious debate, because I was already sitting, with the seat belt placed, my husband next to my husband.”

For her, the team’s position was a disrespect for the rights conquered by people with disabilities.

“Lack of knowledge that I do not admit, it is unacceptable what happened in this aircraft […] It was a disrespect for me, a disrespect to all the passengers inside the aircraft, but it was a disrespect to the issue of rights conquered. ”

After the incident, Celia Leão filed an emergency relief at the São Paulo Court of Justice (TJSP) on Saturday (3). They asked the goal to be required to relocate them at no cost on the next flight to Sao Paulo, ensuring accessibility, comfort and safety, as well as the cost and food cost.

However, the court denied the request, with the judge noting that the request did not fit the hypotheses provided for the judicial duty and that the previous decision should be appealed, not review in the duty.
