Neguinho da Beija-Flor, one of the most iconic interpreters of Rio Carnival, announced his retirement as the official singer of the Nilópolis Hummingbird samba school. In an interview with CNN the sambista shared his feelings about this new phase of his life and career.
“I handed the microphone, not my heart,” said Neguinho, emphasizing that his connection with Beija-Flor remains unshakable, even if he is no longer ahead of the microphones during the parades.
The singer expressed his desire to continue contributing to the school, even if it is “pushing float”.
Sambista’s farewell
The last parade of Neguinho da Beija-Flor as an official interpreter is scheduled for next Saturday, during the Champion Parade like this Grande Rio, Imperatriz, Portela, Viradouro and Hose .
The occasion promises to be a moment of great emotion for the sambista, the Beija-Flor community and the carnival lovers in general.
When asked about his expectations for the future of the school, Neguinho was emphatic: “Ah, all the happiness in the world. Hummingbird is a rooted school, a very strong community, much-oriented to school. I hope all the happiness. I will be following ”.

The parade of Hummingbird of Nilópolis brought the image of “Cristo Mendigo ”, in reference to the 1989 Carnival . That year, an allegory of the Hummingbird was censored by the court, and the image passed through the covered avenue with a plastic bag.
The 2025 plot was a Tribute to Laila Carnival director of Beija-Flor deceased in 2021. He was responsible for the success of the 1989 parade, even with censorship.
