A married man police officer of the Pennsylvania State Police of USA is facing justice after allegedly forcibly arresting his ex-girlfriend and driving her to a mental health treatment program under false pretenses.
Ronald Davis, 37, was arrested Thursday on charges of abusing his power to prosecute his ex-girlfriend, sending her to a medical facility for several days, the Dauphin County District Attorney’s Office said.
Davis allegedly told her, “I know you’re not crazy, I’m going to portray you as crazy,” leading her to forced medical treatment, the victim allegedaccording to court documents released by the district attorney’s office.
His quest to “arrest” his ex began on Aug. 21, when he sought help from fellow officers because he said the victim — identified by the prosecutor as MF — had mental health issues, according to official documents.
Acting on a tip from state police, Davis, who was off duty at the time, contacted county officials through a police email account and posed as a trooper to obtain a warrant after submitting alleged messages from her in which he threatened to kill himself. , according to court documents.
Once he got approval, the officer chased the woman, whom he had been dating for about four months, before uniformed officers arrived, authorities said.
“I’ll sort it out myself,” he reportedly said.
Davis and a civilian who was with him found the victim at a picnic area in a forest. He picked her up and carried her to his car before the two of them wrestled to the ground.
Davis is seen on top of his ex as she claims he threw her to the ground, according to footage recorded by the man who was with Davis and released by the district attorney’s office. He also said he didn’t need help and wanted to get away from the officer. “You’re crazy,” he said. “You’re completely crazy… and then you make me look crazy”.
As she made a move to break free, Davis tackled her and held her to the ground in a “wrestling-style hold,” according to the video, according to authorities. She said more than once “I can’t breathe” as he was on top of her. When the two got up, Davis held her back as she repeatedly said she did nothing wrong. “Why are you treating me like I’m a criminal?” she said before uniformed officers arrived and took her to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Schuylkill.
MF appeared to “not really understand why she is being restricted,” the documents state.
According to the relevant document, she suffered injuries on her body. The girl was held against her will at the hospital for five days and did not display suicidal thoughts during that time, according to medical staff.
He was released from hospital on August 26 and was subsequently questioned by the police.
Once officers saw a text exchange between the pair, they didn’t think there was a reason to force her into treatment, police said. Her allegedly “suicidal” messages that Davis used against her appeared to be hypothetical in nature and part of a larger dispute over their deteriorating relationship, authorities said.
