Neguinho da Beija-Flor, renowned samba school performer, commented on his retirement and the recent title won by Hummingbird of Nilópolis at Rio de Janeiro Carnival in an interview with CNN .
The singer, whose voice has been synonymous with the Rio Carnival for decades, expressed his need for rest after years dedicated to the revelry.
HISTORICAL HOMENGES AND REMAINING
The interpreter highlighted the symbolic importance of the elements brought by the hummingbird in his victorious parade of 2025 .
THE Hummingbird of Nilópolis paid tribute to Luiz Fernando Ribeiro do Carmo, better known as Laíla one of its greatest baluvers. With a plot signed by João Vitor Araújo and research by Bianca Behrends, Vivian Pereira and Guilherme Niegro, the parade brought “Laíla de Todos os Santos, Laíla all sambas”.
“Certainly, the memory of what Joãozinho 30 represents, which represents that carnival that was for the history of Christ the beggar, isn’t it?” Commented Neguinho, referring to the iconic parade of 1989, which was in second place, but marked the history of carnival.
In addition, Neguinho emphasized the tribute provided to the iconic figures of Carnival: “What Laila represents, represented for Carnival, not only the hummingbird but of the Brazilian Carnival, so all that really motivated us.”

The last parade of Neguinho da Beija-Flor as an official interpreter is scheduled for the Next Saturday (8) during the parade of champions, as well as Grande Rio, Imperatriz, Portela, Viradouro and Mangueira.
