I. Smyrlis: With the Hellenic Export Credit Company, the coverage of Greek exports is increased fivefold in 5 years

The benefits of the modernization of the Export Credit Insurance Organization (OAEP) and its transformation into a Societe Anonyme, the Hellenic Export Credit Company (EEEP) are highlighted in an article today in the newspaper “To Vima tis Kyriakis” by the Secretary General of Foreign and International Affairs. DOSE) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and President of Enterprise Greece, Ioannis Smyrlis.

Mr. Smyrlis explains that EEEP “comes to cure chronic weaknesses and pathogens” of OAEP and to close the gaps in the support of Greek exporters. This, he claims, was done by adopting “best practices and best models of European organizations that are in line with the charter of the country’s small and medium-sized enterprises”.

“We are now following a new business model with new products and tools, so that the national export credit institution can respond effectively to meeting their real needs.”

In particular, Mr. Smyrlis refers to the new tools, such as the expansion of the product portfolio – to 10, at least, instead of one – which will include in addition to insurance, guarantees and financing, addressed to export companies. Also, the provision of consulting and support services to export or potential export companies, with the aim of their business development, operating as a one-stop shop for their activity in international markets. Of particular importance is, among other things, the expansion of activity to projects of strategic importance to the national economy and related to extroversion, increased productivity and employment, as well as synergies with financial institutions, businesses and exporters, Chambers on European and international financial assistance programs to third countries, to strengthen Greek entrepreneurship internationally. “aiming to cover total exports worth 2.5 billion euros, which account for almost 6% of total Greek exports”. He added: “It is estimated that over a five-year period it will have supported exports of € 8.7 billion. “.

Of particular importance in Mr. Smyrlis’s view is the fact that the EEEP is going to support small and medium-sized export companies that are excluded from the banking system and the private insurance market, with all that this implies for their competitiveness.

In closing, he stressed the importance of business support for the modernization of the national export credit body, “a fact that is a practical proof of the success of the Foreign Ministry’s efforts to support the Greek exporter,” he said.
