50-year-old Nathan Green from the United Kingdom was out for a beer with friends last June when he felt a tickle on the back of his leg. At first he didn’t pay much attention. But when he returned home, he began to feel unwell. “I started shaking and getting cold. I felt really bad and I thought ‘something is going on here,'” he said.
Several hours passed and the man continued to feel very ill. At first he believed he had been poisoned by adulterant drink. “I felt really bad, like something had passed over me. I thought someone had poisoned me. I was really sick,” he says.

Twenty-four hours after drinking, his legfrom the knee to the ankle was much swollen and it had become three times its normal sizeprompting his wife to fearfully tell him it was time for the hospital emergency room.
“Then I noticed this blister on the back of my foot and within an hour it had doubled in size,” she added to the New York Post. At the hospital a nurse at first glance found that a spider, a black widow had bitten the 50-year-old.
The doctors said that went into anaphylactic shock and he was immediately given intravenous serum antibiotics. Green’s back leg began to develop more yellow blisters before doctors had to puncture them and drain the fluid, leaving him with a large wound.

“You can’t imagine that a small spider can do so much damage, it’s unbelievable,” he said, admitting that he will be more suspicious of insects from now on. “Before this happened, when my family saw a spider, I would pick it up with my hand, open the window and throw it out, it didn’t worry me at all,” he admitted.
Green said the bite was the worst pain he had ever felt, and that three weeks later he still had difficulty moving his leg and walking.
He admitted that if it wasn’t for his wife he wouldn’t have gone to the hospital and he expressed his gratitude because if he had delayed any longer the consequences might have been very serious.
“The hospital said if I had delayed more my leg would have been more damaged. My advice to anyone who gets bitten is to get it checked out right away.”
