I still suffer from capableist comments, says Pequena Lô, a social media phenomenon

Lorrane Silva, Little Lô, is one of the main references of contemporary humor. With 4.4 million followers on Instagram and 5.6 million on Tiktok, she said, in an interview with CNN Radioon CNN no Plural, who had a lot of difficulties getting to where he is.

She – who was born with shortened limbs due to an unidentified syndrome linked to bone dysplasia – said that, today, “she is a reference for people with disabilities.”

“I suffered with capacitist phrases and I still suffer, as I grow up, the proportion of them also grows, most like my work, who criticizes are few people, but it ends up affecting sometimes”, he admitted.

Even so, Pequena Lô stated that she has worked hard since 2015 to improve herself. “There are those who talk about the disability to try to make me give up, but that doesn’t make me stop, despite the difficulties.”

The influencer also assesses that people still treat people with disabilities as “a human being of overcoming”: “As in the Paralympics, everyone treats athletes with pity, even though they have a gigantic talent. They think that having pity, pity, will make the person feel loved, but it’s not like that.”

She believes that “there is still a great lack of inclusion on the internet”: “Starting with videos of people with disabilities that don’t go viral as much, even though they have quality.”

Pequena Lô reinforced, for example, the need to make content with subtitles. “There is still this lack of accessibility, but for me it has become a routine to put them in my posts.”
