Bonnie Caldwell, 26, entered the TikTok to share her dark story, with her videos now garnering millions of views by the afternoon of Thursday 31/3. New Zealand showed the sickening sense of humor in the clip, which contained the caption:
Caldwell appeared in the video to have a sad expression, before she was suddenly cut off from a photo of her husband saying, “He was dead.”
The tragic accident
In a subsequent video, the widow explained how her husband, Matt Caldwell, 25, tragically passed away on August 8, 2021, while traveling with friends to a nearby town. Matt and his friends had traveled to the city to watch a rugby match, with Caldwell deciding to stay home alone.
The woman last spoke to her husband on the phone the night he left, before sending him various messages the next morning saying “I love you” and “I look forward to seeing you.” “He did not answer, which I found a little strange on his part,” the widow told her followers on TikTok. “But I also thought, ‘Probably just a hangover.'”
However, several hours passed and Caldwell began to worry, saying she knew her husband had to be on his way home as he had to leave his hotel at 10am.
“I started to realize that something was wrong,” he explained. “Another two hours passed and I received a message from Matt’s brother to come to their house immediately and I ran out the door.”
When she arrived at her brother-in-law’s house, there were police at the residence, who informed her that Matt had died. Caldwell explained that her young husband had died after a tragic fall on an embankment near his hotel. He went on to say that Matt “died in the crash” and that investigators believe he was distracted by his phone as he was found up close to his body with a video still playing.
