Jim Carrey 62, faced a double challenge during the recording of “Sonic 3 “. In the new sequence, which hits theaters this Wednesday (25), the actor plays two characters: the villain, the mad scientist Doctor Eggman (Dr. Robotnik’s pseudonym), and his grandfather, Gerald Robotnik.
But how can you extract two performances that interact with each other in the same film? “I know it’s a lot to ask of an actor, because it’s a challenging job,” says the director Jeff Fowler the CNN .
“They need to memorize twice as many lines, understand body positioning techniques and how a sequence is filmed. It’s difficult, it’s complicated”, he continued. However, Carrie readily accepted the challenge .
“When I told him about this absurd idea, on the first day of development of the film, I had my fingers crossed, hoping that he would accept “, remembers Fowler. “Fortunately, he saw this as an opportunity to bring a new character to life and gave himself completely.”
In the new film, Sonic, Knuckles and Tails come together to face a fearsome enemy: Shadow, a mysterious villain with unprecedented powers, totally different from the challenges they have already faced. Using their unique abilities, Team Sonic will attempt to form an unexpected alliance with the goal of defeating Shadow and saving the planet.
Jim Carrey and James Marsden reprise their roles as Dr. Robotnik and Tom Wachowski, while Ben Schwartz, Idris Elba and Colleen O’Shaughnessey return to voice Sonic, Knuckles and Tails, respectively.
The big news comes from Keanu Reeves, who will be responsible for voicing the character Shadow. “Sonic 3: The Movie” hits theaters this Wednesday (25).
