The presenter’s wife Cid Moreira , Fátima Sampaio Moreira spoke to the program Encontro com Patrícia Poeta, on TV Globo, this Thursday morning (3). The journalist died at the age of 97 this Wednesday, due to kidney failure, and, according to Fátima, he reported that “he was tired”.
Cid Moreira died around 8am this Thursday (3), in a hospital in Petrópolis, in the mountainous region of Rio de Janeiro. Born in 1927, he was a presenter at Jornal Nacional for 26 years.
Presenter Patricia Poeta spoke about the interview and reported what Fátima said minutes before going on air. “She called me and said: ‘I think Cid is coming to an end’. When I was getting ready to join the program, she called me and said: ‘Patricia, Cid just left us. I’m with the doctor, he can explain what happened, but I’m going to say goodbye to Cid and we’ll talk in a little while.”
Live at the Meeting, Fátima spoke about death. “I… I’m sorry for the state I’m in, but I’ve been spending all these days by his side. On his side, I spent the month camped here next to him, I had nowhere else to be. That’s where my heart was. We came fighting, age is not easy.”
“We moved close to the hospital to help him when he started dialysis, in case of emergency,” he continued. “He did dialysis at home, but… the doctor can explain it better.”
“I didn’t tell anyone to have the right, as a human being, to privacy, to take care of him, waiting for him to come home”, he said about the presenter’s health status. “I did the best I could to comfort him.”
“We’ve been together for almost 25 years, it’s quite a story,” he continued. “I always said to the doctor: ‘I want a little more [de tempo com ele]’. But he said he was tired, he said: ‘I’m tired, [é] a lot of struggle, I’m tired, my body is tired, the last few years have been difficult’. With the kidney, the chronic problem makes the person tired.”
“Lucid to the end”, reinforced his wife.
The two, according to her, had been together for 25 years. “We had a lot of fun with the age difference,” he said. “He had a lot of fun with our differences, we ended up laughing together.”
