President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) once again stated this Tuesday (7) that he can disregard decisions of the Federal Supreme Court. During a speech at Palácio do Planalto, Bolsonaro said that the time when decisions of the STF were carried out without any discussion is gone.
According to the president, the ministers of the Supreme Court want to harm him and end up harming Brazil.
“I went from the time when ‘the Supreme Court’s decision is not discussed, it is carried out’. I went from that time. IM not anymore. Certain measures catch the eye of laypeople. It’s unbelievable. They want to harm me and harm Brazil.”
Bolsonaro said, once again, that if the new timeframe for the demarcation of indigenous lands is approved by the Supreme Court, he will not comply with the decision. At the trial, the ministers discussed whether indigenous peoples can claim the demarcation of lands that were already occupied by them before the date of promulgation of the Constitution of 1988.
According to Bolsonaro, this could end Brazilian food security and agribusiness.
“If the new time frame is approved, in addition to an area the size of the Southeast region, already demarcated as indigenous land, we will have another area the size of the South region. The Brazilian economy, agribusiness, ended. Our food guarantee is over. Brazil is over. What do I do if I approve the timeframe? I have two options. I give the key to the Supreme Minister or I say: ‘I will not comply’.”
THE CNN contacted the STF to comment on the statements. The Court said it will not comment.
