The Greek-American could not hide his emotion that he retired on Monday morning (4/12) police officer where retired dancing zeibekiko. “I’ll help whoever they choose,” John Pappas said.
The 52-year-old, as he pointed out while speaking to Mega and the show “Society Hour MEGA” with Anthi Voulgari and Iordanis Hasapopoulos, served as commander of the K-9 transport division of the New York Police Department (NYPD) for more than 26 years and retired.
He danced himself Zeybekiko under the lyrics of Notis Sfakianakis, but also in island style in the brilliant ceremony in honor of the ceremony, at the facilities of the Department on Long Island, with the participation of relatives, friends and many of his colleagues.
The Transportation Department and several former colleagues wanted to thank him for his contributions to the service, as well as the development of the NYPD’s special K-9 Transportation Unit, with a tribute video, set to the sounds of “Zorba.”
“I am 52 years old. I have a total of about 3 decades in the police force, 18 years as a commander in this task force (s.k.a. K-9) that I established at the end of 2005. The reason was for terrorist attacks that we constantly get in New York” said John Pappas .
As he noted, he has close cooperation with similar groups throughout Europe, among them also in Greece.
“I’ve invented something like a harness for the dog that detects explosives that its nose can’t” he said and explained that he was present “at all terrorist attacks”, while his team has helped neutralize bombs many times.
“Whoever they choose I will help him” he noted referring to his replacement.
