The Iranian Foreign Ministry said today that the latest report by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which refers to Iran’s undeclared nuclear facilities, is neither “balanced” nor “fair.”
“Unfortunately, this report does not reflect the reality of the negotiations between Iran and the IAEA,” a spokesman for the ministry, Saeed Khatibzadeh, told reporters.
“It is not a fair and balanced report,” he added. “We expect this course to be corrected.”
The reaction of the Iranian diplomacy comes shortly after the publication yesterday Monday of the IAEA report, in which it states that it has “unanswered” questions about the existence of nuclear material in three undeclared facilities: Marivan, Varamin and Turkuzabad.
The IAEA notes that it has asked Iranian officials in vain to explain the presence of this equipment at the facility.
“We are afraid that the pressure exerted by the Zionist regime and other factors is pushing the agency to turn its technical reports into policies,” Hatibzadeh complained.
The head of the Iranian mission to the international services in Vienna, Mohammad Reza Gembi, yesterday asked the IAEA to “be aware of the catastrophic consequences of publishing such a biased report.”
In April, Tehran said it had sent IAEA documents about the undeclared facilities, saying it expected “doubts” to be removed by June.
Talks between Iran and the IAEA are taking place in parallel with negotiations on the revival of the 2015 agreement on Iran’s nuclear program. The messages from them have been mixed in recent weeks.
Negotiations started a year ago and have been suspended several times. The goal is to revive the international agreement from which the US unilaterally withdrew in 2018 under the presidency of Donald Trump. Iran has since withdrawn from some of its commitments.
