IBAMA DOA SECRET seized to USP Zoology Museum

An indigenous hint seized by the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) during a post office inspection action was donated to the University of São Paulo Zoology Museum (MZUSP) at a meeting between the institutions this month.

According to Ibama, the play, which was destined for Stockholm, in Sweden, is composed of 105 Macaws -104 of red-red macaw (Ara Chloropterus) and a penalty of the red macaw tail (Ara Macao). Psychic species are protected by Brazilian and international laws, and their international trade is regulated by the Convention on International Trade of Flora and Wild Fauna in danger of extinction (CITES).

The donation and meeting were considered an important step in strengthening the collaboration between MZUSP and Ibama, for the conservation of Brazilian biodiversity and for the awareness of society about the importance of protecting fauna.

During the meeting, on the 3rd of this month, the representatives discussed topics of protection of Brazilian fauna, such as the proper disposal of materials seized in the institute’s supervisory actions and the potential to use these items in conservation and environmental education activities.

“The institutions also addressed the transfer of technical information to subsidize decision making and the importance of greater institutional integration to optimize efforts to defend biodiversity,” said Ibama.
