IBGE has less than 700,000 applicants for the 2022 Census selection process

After extending until January 21 the registrations for the selection process of the 2022 Demographic Census, according to sources from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the institution has less than 700 thousand applicants to fill the 206,891 temporary job vacancies offered .

Expressing concern about the low number of candidates registered, the IBGE also sent a communiqué to the Census Consultative Committee and called a press conference on the selection for this Monday (3rd).

The objective is to draw attention to the problem and officially disclose the balance of the number of subscribers so far.

The vacancies are for census takers (183.021), supervising census agent (18,420) and municipal census agent (5,450) in almost all 5,297 Brazilian municipalities and the preference is that the candidate lives in the area for which he/she will apply.

The Demographic Census takes place every ten years.

The new edition was scheduled for 2020, but was postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic. In 2021, the lack of budget funds on the part of the federal government prevented the population counting from being carried out.

The values for the research in 2022 were released after the Supreme Court (STF) was called.

In the document sent to the members of the Census Consultative Committee, the IBGE showed concern with the short period, between December 15 and 29, for candidates’ registration – which has now been extended to January 21 –, the opening of the process being during the New Year’s Eve parties, when many potential candidates are employed in temporary jobs, the two postponements of the same selection process and the difficulty in getting the application fees back from those two previous processes.

The census is the main source of data to understand the Brazilian population and essential to guide political, economic and social issues in the country.

It is also the main source of information for investments in the private sector and studies and scientific research and in educational, social and financial areas.

Envelope or Demographic Census of 2022

The selection processes allow people enrolled in the Cadastro Único for social programs of the federal government, the CadÚnico, to be exempted from the payment of the registration fee.

Registration fees are R$57.50 for the census taker and R$60.50 for the supervising and municipal census agent.

After sending the data, the request will undergo an analysis by the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV), organizer of the contest. Entries can be made on the contest website.

The preliminary result of the fee waiver requests will be on February 2nd, with appeals being made on February 3rd and 4th.

On February 15th, the definitive result is released.

In case the request for exemption is rejected, the candidate will be able to pay the fee until the 16th of February.
