According to a forecast by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), Brazil should have a record national crop of almost 259 million tons in March 2022. Rice, corn and soybeans are the three main products of the Brazilian crop, representing 92.2% of the production and 87.7% of the area to be harvested.
Also according to the IBGE, in relation to 2021, the rice crop shows a drop of 8%. On the other hand, there was an increase of more than 8% in the area of corn and almost 4% in the area of soybeans.
In an interview with CNN, the institutional president of the Brazilian Association of Corn Producers (Abramilho), Cesário Ramalho, commented on the positive numbers for rural producers. “We live in a difficult period, however, we have a corn crop planted today that promises a lot.”
“If we harvest well, we don’t have climate problems, it will generally cool down consumer prices. We hope for that,” she added.
In total, Mato Grosso, Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul, Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul and Minas Gerais are, respectively, the largest producers in the country, accounting for 79% of the total harvest.
