IBGE revises Brazil’s growth in 2021 to 5%, from 4.6% previously estimated

The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) revised upwards GDP (Gross Domestic Product) growth for 2021 to 5%, from 4.6% previously estimated.

The new calculation is a reflection of the readjustments in the sectors of agriculture, which went from a drop of 0.2% to an increase of 0.3% in the year, industry, which increased from 4.5% to 4.8%, and services, from 4.7% to 5.3%.

The institute also revised the calculations for the indicator for the first and second quarters of this year, in comparisons with the same period last year. From January to March, the rate went from 1.7% to 2.4%. From April to June, from 3.2% to 3.7%.

The growth of the economy accumulates high of 3% in the last 12 months.

The IBGE also revised the number for the first quarter of this year in comparison with the immediately previous period, going to 1.3%, from 1.1% calculated on a preliminary basis.

For the second quarter, growth was revised downwards. The expansion of activity in the period was 1%, after initially estimating at 1.2%.

The institute released this morning that the Brazilian economy grew by 0.4% in the third quarter of 2022 compared to the immediately previous period. The result for the quarter is the fifth consecutive positive result after the 0.3% decrease from April to June last year.

Compared to the third quarter of 2021, the increase was 3.6%.
