The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) reported that it will update the parameters of the seasonal adjustment model of the Monthly Industrial Survey – Physical Production (PIM-PF) as early as April 1, with data for February 2022.
“Due to the use of new seasonal adjustment models and estimation methods, seasonally adjusted series may have their values revised from the beginning of the historical series to the most recent data – this will occur for all series whose new seasonal adjustment model differs from the one previously used”, warned the IBGE, in a technical note.
According to André Macedo, manager of the IBGE’s Industry Coordination, the procedure is “normal” and has already been adopted on previous occasions.
“The last (update) we did was in 2018. The idea is that we make these updates every two years, but the pandemic process, the migration from face-to-face work to the home office, adaptation to the new process of collecting information, all this ended up postponing”, justified Macedo.
The change in the seasonal adjustment model was detailed by the agency in two technical notes published this Wednesday (9) on its website.
