That image that everyone had in their heads that a hacker was a very intelligent, introspective person, who mastered programming and invaded other people’s computers is a thing of the past.
Currently, cyber attacks are carried out by structured, extremely competent and silent gangs.
According to the study IBM Security X-Force Threat Intelligence Index 2022, Latin America saw a 4% increase in cyberattacks in 2021 compared to the previous year. Brazil, Mexico and Peru were the most attacked countries. In Brazil, the sectors that suffered the most were: manufacturing with 20%, followed by mining with 17% and professional services, energy and retail with 15% of attacks.
O ransomwarewhich is a type of malware (malicious software) used by cybercriminals was the main attack method observed in 2021, both globally and in Latin America. And the BEC (Business Email Compromise) was the second most accomplished attack.
It proves that as companies, institutions and governments adapt to a rapidly changing global market – including hybrid and cloud-based work environments – threats also adapt and exploit these changes. The ease, convenience and dynamism of the hyper-connected world has heightened concerns, fragility and security in companies of all sizes and segments.
In this scenario, cybersecurity has become a key issue for business and is a vital issue within all organizations. It is no longer an exclusive agenda for the IT team, CISOs or CIOs, but for the entire board of the company. Because without security, environments are vulnerable and can suffer impacts on reputation, organization and finances, ultimately destabilizing an entire sector of the economy.
And how to combat these new threats in an ever-changing era?
It is necessary to align security strategies with the business, protect the identities of employees, customers, suppliers and partners, protect data, apps and infrastructure, manage defenses against growing threats and modernize the security program with an open and multicloud platform.
