IBM’s Latest Study Reveals How Unprepared Organizations Are For The Much-Needed Digital Transformation

IBM’s latest study revealed that more than 60% of the companies are not ready to enhance their IT modernization and digital transformation program for the futuristic goals.

Out of all the surveyed CIOs and CTOs, only 24% of them revealed that their companies are just beginning to prepare for the digital transformation or have started taking baby steps in this direction. One-third of these respondents said that they have begun the journey and are in the middle of it. But 60% of the respondents were still struggling with the idea of IT modernization.

Before the pandemic had hit the world, most of the companies were happy with their pace and not very much bothered about this transformation. However, now, seeing how important it is to have a better cloud infrastructure, more than 95% of the survey respondents said that they are keen to adopt some cloud strategies, be it private, hybrid, or public.

Around 53% of the respondents are looking for public cloud infrastructure for their companies, while 48% of the surveyed CIOs and CTOs are aiming for a hybrid strategy. Around 45% of them want a private cloud strategy.

Companies now need proper technology integration for better operations.

Archana Vemulapalli, the GM and CTO of IBM Infrastructure Services and Offerings has also responded to this study and said that the clients now want to accelerate their IT modernization journey with the help of different types of cloud models and looking to incorporate advanced technologies in the areas of data and analytics, artificial intelligence, automation, etc. as they want to grow their businesses while also ensuring their proper governance.

If anything, this pandemic has made people aware of one thing: Everything is uncertain. And if such a situation occurs again and the world goes into a lockdown, the companies now want to be prepared to continue running their businesses efficiently and smoothly, with the higher-ups being capable to look after the businesses effectively.

So, the companies need to meet the right partners and incorporate the right technology to “aggregate, integrate, build, and maintain a scalable digital business” along with proper governance.

It’s not only cloud adaptation that is required; the companies also need proper training.

While most of the companies now understand that they have to make their organizations more digitally enhanced, the problem is that employees who form the teams in these organizations are either not properly trained, or they lack some skills that are needed for the digital transformation to take place.

Around 40% of the respondents of this survey said that their teams are not ready to meet the new IT missions.

Around 67% of the surveyed higher executives believe that they need flexible infrastructure changes and services from their trusted partners who can provide the infrastructure services.

Apart from flexibility, 61% of them are looking for a competitive advantage, while 58% of these companies are trying to look for more cost savings. 54% of the companies want these changes to have an impact on their globalization and 45% are rooting to meet the client demands effectively.

The difference between the US and UK companies is quite alarming.

Around 56% of the surveyed American execs said that they are “aggressively” trying to move in the IT modernization direction by adopting a hybrid cloud strategy, but only 38% of the UK respondents claimed to be thinking about this move aggressively.

Almost 56% of the American execs claimed to have prepared their business strategies after facing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, but only 23% of the UK respondents claim to be prepared for making the move in the direction of IT modernization.
