Ibovespa operates in decline after speeches by Haddad and an eye on Wall Street; dollar goes up

The Ibovespa fell in the trading session this Tuesday (3), after speeches by the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, and amid investor concerns about the health of public accounts. The main index of the stock exchange fell 0.44% at 11:35 am, to 105,903 points.

Investors also monitored the return of operations on Wall Street, which returns from a holiday in the United States with a positive bias in the first negotiations of the day.

Already the dollar engaged a third consecutive high session. At the same time, the American currency advanced 0.10%, to R$ 5.365 in the sale. Moments after the opening, the North American currency jumped 0.93%, to R$ 5.407.

Haddad gave an interview to TV 247 this morning and relativized the market’s reaction the day before, saying that only now was there a perception of the “electoral spree” created by Bolsonaro, which left a gap of R$ 300 billion in public coffers.

In another day of decline, Petrobras shares fell 1.57% around 11:35 am. It is worth mentioning that the company’s shares fell more than 6% the day before.

On the eve, the spot US currency gained 1.52%, at R$ 5.358 on sale, the highest daily appreciation since November 25 (+1.838%) and the highest closing level since November 28 (R$ 5.364) . The Ibovespa ended down 3.06%.

One of the factors that contributed to the rise of the dollar and the fall of the Ibovespa was Lula’s determination to interrupt the privatization process of eight state-owned companies. In view of the measure, state-owned companies had a bloodletting day and lost BRL 32 billion in market value, according to TradeMap.

The Central Bank will hold an auction of up to 16,000 traditional exchange rate swap contracts in this trading session for the purpose of rolling over the maturity of February 1, 2023.
