Ice Cream Day: places that offer unconventional flavors in São Paulo

It all started 4,000 years ago in China. Then it crossed oceans, landed in Italy, France, until conquering the whole world, including Brazil. we talk about Ice cream cold, versatile and tasty dessert, which has a day of its own: September 23th .

It is, indeed, a national passion partly because our tropical climate, with high temperatures, favors refreshing sweets, and partly because our “Brazilian” touch has given rise to authentic flavors and unique preparations.

The survey carried out by MindMiners, which heard more than a thousand men and women over 16 years old, from the ABC classes throughout Brazil, between March and April of this year, identified that 74% like ice cream as dessert after meals and 62% of respondents when going out with friends and family. As a snack, ice cream was remembered by 53% of respondents who revealed eating ice cream watching TV or streaming channels and 40% as snacks between meals. In other words, for Brazilians anytime is ice cream time !

To celebrate this delicious day, we select ice cream shops that offer traditional flavors with perfection, of course, but that know how to innovate and show that a beautiful gelato goes far beyond chocolate and cream. Get to know them one by one and take a true journey through “different” flavors.

Pinguina Ice Cream

They do not use dyes, flavorings and ready-made bases, in addition to having Brazilian flavors as the main stars of the menu. Without chemicals and with a natural flavor, allow yourself to try the de tonka in cupuaçu, in seriguela, in vanilla with lavender and launch today, on Ice Cream Day, a gelato in partnership with national beer TRAIL . The ice cream made with Pão de Mel, beer inspired by the candy and one of the most beloved by the craft brewery public.

The menu is authentic and modern, and the flagship flavor of the house, the award-winning “Caffé-Lime”, is prepared with a blend made by Coffee Martins exclusively for Gelato Boutique and composed of two varieties of Arabica coffee: the red Catuí and the yellow Catuí that undergo a light fermentation leaving the drink with pleasant lactic acidity and a sweet finish like caramel and chestnuts. Among other flavors that stand out are the dulce de leche with cumaru (Amazonian seed); caramelized macadamia nuts; cream-based soy caramel with caramelized soy sauce; and pistachios made with seeds from small producers. Albero del Gelati

Created in 1985 in Italy and with a unit in New York, Albero del Gelati understands that the heart of their gelato lies in the land, the farmer and the relationship they establish with him. The first step when they opened in São Paulo, in 2019, was to make a series of trips across Brazil to search for ingredients and small producers that shared their values. The ingredients selected are mostly local and seasonal, and, whenever possible, organic and biodynamic.

The result of this vision and this search is what they call “agricultural gelato”; a handcrafted product born from the earth, natural, without any chemical additives, tasty and environmentally conscious. Flavor options always change, but unusual combinations like Spirulina (organic seaweed ) infused with flowers (such as nasturtium, lavender, geranium and chamomile ) and milk base; Purple Carrot with Orange and Papaya ; Tisamissu with Amora ; Serra da Canastra cheese with chestnut and honey ; Pepper; and Onion flips and stirs appear in the menu.

THE downtown ice cream shop led by award-winning chefs Jefferson Rueda and Janaína Rueda , is successful with its well-crafted and innovative ice creams, a fact that can be proven by the queues formed there daily – which double in the heat and on weekends. The ice creams are made without preservatives or additives, sold in the “soft” version based on farm milk or fruit, the famous “sorbet”. Leaving two machines, there are five fixed flavors, such as milk, chocolate, strawberry, jabuticaba and milk + chocolate. Other flavors are rotating, in which the idea is to have seasonal creations and non-obvious mixes, such as milk-based ice cream with dried bacon on top and crackling in the middle , a delicacy from Casa do Porco. Also noteworthy is the jabuticaba with pennyroyal (mint species) and chia syrup which gives a sweet touch with the crunchy sigh.
