Idaho is considering implementing the death penalty by firing squad

Republican lawmakers in Idaho are considering reinstating execution by firing squad after a failed execution of a convicted serial killer by injection last year. Rep. Bruce Skaug on Tuesday filed a bill that would make Idaho the only state in the US where the firing squad would be the primary method of carrying out the death penalty, the Idaho Statesman newspaper reported. Skaug previously sponsored a bill that became law in 2023 allowing the use of the firing squad as an alternative method only when lethal injection was not possible due to a lack of drugs. Botched execution by lethal injection In February 2024, 73-year-old Thomas Eugene Creech, convicted of five murders, was scheduled to be executed by lethal injection.
