IDB confirms Ilan Goldfajn’s candidacy for the presidency of the bank

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) accepted the nomination by the Government of Brazil of Ilan Goldfajn to be a candidate for the presidency of the institution, despite a request by Guido Mantega, former Minister of Finance, that the name not be accepted.

By means of a letter, Mantega also requested the postponement of the election, scheduled for November 20, but the date is maintained. Five names were presented as candidates for the position of President of the IDB:

  • Cecilia Todesca Bocco was nominated by Argentina;
  • Gerard Johnson was nominated by Trinidad and Tobago;
  • Gerardo Esquivel Hernández was nominated by Mexico;
  • Ilan Goldfajn was nominated by Brazil;
  • Nicolás Eyzaguirre Guzmán was nominated by Chile.
