Israel would prefer a diplomatic solution in Lebanon, the country’s envoy to the United Nations, Danny Danon, said on Wednesday (25), but added that if diplomacy fails, Israel will use all means at its disposal.
“As I said before, we welcome the initiatives of different negotiators and I think they know exactly what we expect, and if we can achieve that with diplomacy, it will be much better for Israel, much better for Lebanon,” Danon said.
Speaking at the United Nations, Danon said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was expected to arrive on Thursday (26) and address the UN General Assembly on Friday (27).
The UN Security Council met on Wednesday to discuss the escalating violence in Lebanon. The meeting was requested by France, one of the council’s five permanent members.
