The injured man was taken for medical care in Osorio and, according to preliminary information, is recovering. The Civil Police confirmed the attack of the jaguar, but said it had no details about the dog’s whereabouts.
The Environmental Command of the Military Brigade (CABM) announced, in a press release, that it was not triggered at the time of the attack, but moved to the scene on the morning of Monday (5) to perform steps and collect information.
The CABM has already called Ibama and Sema-RS for the appropriate technical and legal measures to be adopted, including animal monitoring and risk assessment for the local population.
The Environmental Command emphasized that cases involving jaguars are uncommon in the region, classifying it as atypical and that it requires a thorough investigation and collaboration between safety, environment and health.
The guidance to the population is to maintain a distance from large wild animals and immediately trigger the phone 190 or the nearest environmental battalion in case of sighting.
