Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said on Wednesday (3) that Israeli forces will be ready to take any necessary action against the Lebanese group Hezbollah, although the preference is to reach a negotiated agreement.
“We are striking Hezbollah very hard every day and we will also reach a state of full readiness to take any necessary action in Lebanon, or to reach an agreement from a position of strength,” Gallant said in a statement issued by his office.
“We prefer an agreement, but if reality forces us, we will know how to fight,” he concluded.
Israel moving towards end of phase of destruction of Hamas military capabilities, says Netanyahu
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday that Israel was moving closer to its goal of eliminating the military capabilities of Hamas, the militant group that rules Gaza and led the Oct. 7 attack on Israel that triggered the war.
Less intense operations would continue, according to Israel’s leader.
“We are moving towards the end of the phase of eliminating the Hamas terrorist army, and there will be a continuation to attack its remnants,” Netanyahu said, according to a statement from his office.
On Monday morning, the militant group Islamic Jihad fired a barrage of rockets at Israel as fighting raged in Gaza and Israeli tanks advanced deeper into parts of the enclave, residents and officials said.
The war began when Hamas-led fighters invaded southern Israel on Oct. 7, killing 1,200 people and taking about 250 hostages, mostly civilians, back to Gaza, according to Israeli records.
The offensive launched by Israel in retaliation killed nearly 38,000 people, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, and left the heavily urbanized enclave in ruins.
Efforts by US-backed Arab mediators to secure a ceasefire have stalled. Hamas says any deal must end the war and trigger a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.
Israel says it will accept only temporary pauses in fighting until Hamas is eradicated
