If there was a crime, there will be punishment, says leader of the evangelical bench in the Chamber

At the request of the Federal Public Ministry (MPF), Judge Renato Borelli, of the Federal Court in Brasília, decided to send the investigation into possible interference with the Federal Police — in the case involving former Minister of Education, Milton Ribeiro — to the Supreme Court. Federal (STF).

In an interview with CNN this Saturday (25), the leader of the evangelical bench in the Chamber, deputy Sóstenes Cavalcante (PL) commented on the investigations at the MEC.

“Here, if there was a crime, there will certainly be punishment. With regard to the accusation now made by the Federal Police delegate of possible intervention, it is up to him to prove where the interventions took place. Now, if there was an intervention, how did the former minister arrested and this arrest did not last 24 hours because the judge did not even find evidence for this arrest to take place”, said Cavalcante.

The deputy stated that the evangelical bench is anxious to find out the facts, especially due to the presence of evangelicals in the government.

“We evangelicals, especially since they are evangelical figures who were in the government, want to find out all the facts. Now, to say that there is corruption without evidence we cannot,” he said.

“Here, when there is any indication of an illicit practice, it is withdrawn, the investigation is allowed to run and, be sure, that if any illicit practice is proven, not only corruption, influence peddling, any other type of crime, we will be the first to ask for the punishment of the culprits”, completes the deputy.
